"One company that blew my socks off so to speak was EnviroStyles. They have reusable coated cloth sandwich bags and wrappers. These are non toxic, washable and keep the food fresh. This has been an environmental issue in our household as we used plastic bags. It bugged me that there wasn’t something better. Reusable container worked but didn’t come home often enough to actually be an improvement. These have cool designs and my son was jumping up and down as we told him what they are for and told him to pick some out. Hopefully that means that they will come home. They also have a place to write your name, just in case...We will be going back next year and look forward to seeing all the new ideas. Small changes make a big difference. Sept 9/09 "Finally - something to replace the disposable ziploc! Our busy family of 5 has been using the 4MyEarth sandwich wraps and pockets for several months now. The wraps double as place mats, which is great. Oct 5/09 Northern Mama "I know I sound like a broken record as I spout off on the virtues of reusable lunch containers and wraps but when something is this important for the environment and this easy to incorporate into your everyday life it's worth repeating! As an educator and parent I know the value of review and repetition. My children know precisely why their snacks and sandwiches are not wrapped in plastic, "Because plastic is not good for the earth!" is what they always say. And I take pride in knowing they learned this from my everyday actions. EnviroStyles owner, Nicola, believe as I do that it is the small things you do daily that can make all the difference! I have tested and reviewed various reusable wraps in the past but I especially like the 4myearth products sold by EnviroStyles. 4myearth wraps are manufactured in Australia and the inside of the wrap is coated with a unique and environmentally friendly coating {TPU} free of PVC and phthalates. There are no heavy metals in the coating and it is bio-degradable. The wonderful thing about this coating is it keeps food fresh and it negates the need to sew in a lining which could eventually start to separate from the wrap causing it to be ruined. The wrap is one piece of fabric, durable and easy to clean. Just wipe with soapy water or toss into the washer and hang dry! Even more unique than the wraps--which come in small, medium, and large sizes--4myearth fabricates pockets out of the same polyester coated with TPU. I had never seen these before! These pockets are pouches with a Velcro closure which are fabulous for the small snacks children love. Perfect for small crackers, raisins, nuts, even grapes, or cheerios these pockets make the plastic baggie entirely obsolete. The pockets also come in larger sizes for sandwiches and larger lunch items. My kids love the style, the cool designs, and colours! I love the ease and convenience of these wraps and pockets. An added bonus is the name tag stitched on to each pocket and wrap for easy labelling and preventing loss. I would love to move over to the lunch bag side of things as there are lots of great product concepts that would fit perfectly into the green school™ portfolio. In the meantime, I purchased some fantastic snack and sandwich wraps and pockets from EnviroStyles. The wraps for sandwiches also make a great place mat for the school desk where kids typically eat their lunches. I love the size and easy closure of the small snack pockets. They are ideal for crackers, cookies, veggies or whatever. They are easy to clean and the kids love them. We use them daily, along with a plethora of other containers for our litter less lunches. Jan 29/10 EnviroStyles sandwich wraps and pockets are an everyday part of my triplet eleven-year-old boys’ lunches. We use them for muffins, cookies, buns, sandwiches and veggies. They are so easy to clean- I just wipe them with a dishcloth and leave to air dry. They store easily without all the clutter of plastics and there are no missing lids to worry about. Just wanted to let you know that the "Sandwich Pockets" are a huge hit in Virginia. I gave them to my nieces and nephews for a happy day gift and they are using them everyday. They love them and are so proud of them when their friends ask what they are. The kids tell their friends that this is a good way to hel...p the environment!
